The Digital Manuscript - MIA Workshop - February

Museum of Islamic Art will be having a 3 part workshop on creating a digital manuscript for the youth ages 16 - 25 years. The workshop is free of charge and all materials will be provided but you will need to book by sending an email to dzada@qm.org.qa

Here are the details.

Have you illustrated story characters before? Does old imagery in manuscripts amaze you? Then let’s create a digital illustrated story! Combining the beautiful simplicity of old times and the technology of our day, you will create a scene from one of Aesop’s Fables beginning with hand sketching and finishing with Adobe Photoshop magic tricks. At the end of this course you will have created a special drawing that looks like an old manuscript.

Ruq'ah for Men & Women - January to April

Museum of Islamic Art is having yet another course on Calligraphy for men and women on separate days called Ruq'ah for Men and Women. This course is free of charge and materials will be provided, but need prior booking. Email haahmed@qm.org.qa for booking.

Ruq'ah script is the last calligraphy invented at the Ottoman court, reaching its height in the 19th century. The simple, clear style of Ruq'ah script makes it ideal for students starting Arabic calligraphy.

It is notable for the simplicity and small movements that are required to write in it, thanks to its short horizontal stems, which is why it is the most common script for everyday use. Diwani for Men & Women - Calligraphy Course from January to April

Museum of Islamic Art will begin a course on Diwani for Men and Women on different days.

Diwani is a calligraphic variety of Arabic script, a cursive style developed during the reign of the early Ottoman Turks (16th century - early 17th century). It was invented by Housam Roumi and reached its height of popularity under Süleyman I the Magnificent (1520–1566).

It is a style of calligraphy developed during the time of the early Ottomans.  Developed for the the Ottoman diwan it was one of the secrets of the sultan’s palace and was used for writing royal decrees and other documents.  Diwani calligraphy is known for its beauty and harmony on the page.

MIA - Walk in Art Workshop for Families - 20th December

Museum of Islamic Art is such an asset for Art Workshops. They have a variety of Family Workshops and many other activities going on, all for free! This Saturday MIA is holding a special workshop for families to go along with Qatar National Day.

This workshop would include creating a National Flag using collage. You can choose from numerous photographs of MIA’s exquisite objects to create beautiful flags and enjoy some quality family time. The whole family can participate. No prior booking needed. Just walk in, enhance your creativity, take home your master piece and cherish family time bonding together.
