Ruq'ah Saturday Workshop - January

Calligraphy lovers can take a short course on Ruq'ah every Saturdays in January at the Museum of Islamic Art. The course is free and all materials will be provided but need prior booking. Email haahmed@qm.org.qa for bookings.

Dates: Saturdays, January 3rd, 10th, 17th & 24th
Times: 9am to 11am

Ruq'ah script is the last calligraphy invented at the Ottoman court, reaching its height in the 19th century. The simple, clear style of Ruq'ah script makes it ideal for students starting Arabic calligraphy.

It is a style that evolved from Nasakh and Thuluth. It is notable for the simplicity and small movements that are required to write in it, thanks to its short horizontal stems, which is why it is the most common script for everyday use. It is considered a step up from the Nasakh script, which children are taught first. In later grades, students are introduced to Ruq'ah
