Watercolor Painting - Basics - VCU Qatar - April

Water Colour is  a painting method in which the paints are made of pigments suspended in a water-soluble vehicle. The term "watercolor" refers to both the medium and the resulting artwork. (Wikipedia)

VCUQatar is offering Watercolor Basics classes this spring. Participants must buy their own materials and bring along. Payment can be made online here or visit the VCUQatar shop in-person for registration.

This is an introduction to watercolor painting focusing on the use of this transparent medium to explore both abstract and realistic subjects.

Students will learn tips for mixing paint and handling brushes, basic wash techniques and capturing the effects of light. The topics covered will include negative painting, basic color tips, painting from still life and using photographs as sources for cityscape and landscape subjects.

Class Outline
  • Introduction to watercolor painting and materials – view a wide variety of historical and contemporary watercolor painting examples. Tips for stretching watercolor paper and using the brushes to make a variety lines and shapes will be introduced
  • Introduction to flat, graded and streaky washes, and negative painting techniques
  • View a variety of watercolor still life examples. Painting from still life using washes and negative painting techniques. Tips for making preliminary sketches and for creating interesting negative shapes will be introduced
  • Painting from still life continued
  • View a variety of watercolor landscape painting examples. Introduction to creating dynamic compositions with a focus on landscape painting. Using photographs for reference
  • Exploration of color schemes and color mixing. Tips for creating beautiful shadows.
  • Introduction to using calligraphic line in paintings. Landscape painting continued
  • Tips for putting the finishing touches on paintings. Cutting a hinged matt to display watercolor paintings

Oil Painting (Taught in Arabic) - VCUQatar Community Classes - April - June

Oil Painting is a stunning way of using oil to carry the colours. Learning to paint through using pigments to make different colours and experimenting with water and oil is indeed a wonderful way to explore Art.

VCUQatar is offering Oil Painting classes in Arabic. Participants must buy their own materials and bring along. Payment can be made online here or visit the VCUQatar shop in-person registration.

The classes cover all aspects of oil painting basics; from looking at and understanding a still life, preparing a background, placing the subject on the format, sketching it roughly, color mixing and application, tonal understanding and shading to create 3d Illusion, wet in wet painting technique and layered final touches.

Note: The class is taught in Arabic, however, English Speakers are welcomed too

  • Introduction to oil color painting – show a collection of master pieces oil painting examples, showing how to begin painting , how to use the tools and materials.
  • Will focus how to enable the student to develop drawing, painting skills and control the paint. How to choose objects and design an artistic composition to create balanced and beautiful painting, and Improving the observation of the color and objects, begin the first Still Life painting.
  • View the shadows and highlights effects, how to put layers and underlying colors through Painting from still life using painting techniques for Still life drawing. How to choose color schemes, mixing and blending the oil colors, Continuing the still life Painting

Qatar National Street Drag Championship Round 5 - 9th & 10th April



Drag Racing is a famous motor racing in which automobiles or motorcycles that are made specifically for this purpose compete, to be first to cross a set finish line. The race follows a short, straight course from a standing start over a measured distance. 

You will be able to witness some fantastic nice looking cars and motorcycle here in Qatar when all of this happens at Street 52. 

Qatar Racing Club will host the 5th Round of the Qatar National Street Drag Championship this weekend. Here are the details. Entrance is free but spectators are requested to register for free online here (registration could be done at the gates too)

Origami Family Workshop - Katara - April

  

How about kids making their own origami fashion and back to school items, little mini origami vehicles an many more exciting creative little things!?

Origami is fun, exciting, and above all can be very addictive! Originating from a Japanese word for paper folding, this ancient Japanese art has concurred the interest of many from little kids to elderly adults.


Origami family workshops with a talented Origami Addict at Katara Art Studio is the talk of the town these days with many families signing up to enjoy quality family time on a Saturdays!
