A Grand Prix sees the riders of each class complete two 30 minute and 2 lap motos, with 25 points awarded to the winner and scaling down to one point for 20th place. The standings of both races are combined for an overall result.

Exclusive collections to dazzle at the Doha Jewellery & Watches Exhibition 2015
Sneak-peeks from leading jewelers and popular designers in an array of over 500 exhibitors

Doha February 22, 2015:

Held under the patronage of HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al-Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior of the State of Qatar and hosted by Qatar Tourism Authority, the 12th edition of the Doha Jewellery and Watches Exhibition is ready to amaze visitors from February 24 until February 28, at the Qatar National Convention Centre.

This year, the collections to be displayed have some interesting points of inspiration.

Jaipur Gems & Diamantaires have appointed Tamara Gabbani as the Middle Eastern brand ambassador and collaborated with her to produce a special collection for the region’s sophisticated customers. Tamara is renowned throughout the region for her classical Middle Eastern beauty, her exquisite style and eye for fashion and her well-followed blog. Tamara’s inputs have resulted in a beautiful collection that captures the quintessence beauties of the region. Jaipur Gems and Diamantaires are inspired by royal styles and have been in the industry since 1974.

Renowned international jewellery brand Mouawad are returning to the 2015 event with dazzling collections, of which two new ones being Silhouette and  Source de Vie. Inspired by the ingenious precepts of geometry, Silhouette pays homage to the art of gemology with amazingly simple shapes of squares, circles, ovals and pears. Another new collection is the Source de Vie. Inspired by the delicate, almost ethereal Trillium blossom, which forms a stunning motif throughout exquisite settings, the Source de Vie collection is all about expressing the special exuberance of the Trillium’s floral purity and innocent joy. Style conscious women will find this enticingly pretty and feminine collection irresistibly chic and fabulously versatile. It has all the hallmarks of timeless elegance that can be handed down and enjoyed through generations.

American jewellery designer extraordinaire, David Webb, is also back at the show. Being displayed for the first time in the Middle East, visitors will view the heritage designs of David Webb as featured at the Norton Museum of Art’s retrospective show in Palm Beach, Florida. This year, Lalique and Al Fardan Jewellery will introduce the “Sun of Gaia” collection for the very first time in the Middle East, exclusively at the Doha Jewellery & Watches Exhibition. Lalique’s famous Art Nouveau and Art Deco signature styles reveal precious and very unique jewellery designs, now part of a collection of more than 200 jewellery pieces introduced since 2012.

To celebrate its 400th anniversary of the House of Medicis, Melleriodits Meller created a high jewellery collection inspired by Marie de Médicis, in which each piece is, in itself, a technical and stylistic innovation. These jewels fit the body, like the exceptional necklace that circles the neck, with openwork motifs that allow a glimpse of the skin beneath. It required a treasure trove of ingenuity and inventiveness to design novel links, springs and ways of fixing diamonds and rubies that ensure unrivalled beauty, comfort and flexibility in this master piece. The masterpiece incorporates 5085 diamonds (63.49 carats), 15 Burmese Mogok pigeon blood rubies (35.25 carats), 3 South Sea pearls, white gold and 4500 hours of work.

Doha’s pioneering and much loved lifestyle department store 51East has a brilliant spread of luxury jewellery and watch brands and their collections ready for the exhibition. Present at the 51East pavilion will be Boucheron, Bremont, Brioni, Chanel, H.Moser & Cie, Hueb Jewellery, Jean Paul Menicucci, Laviere, Pasquale Bruni, Pierre Germani, Roland Iten, Rolex, Tudor and Yvan Tuefenkjian. A special mention at this pavilion is Breva - after 3 years of research and development, Breva launched its first groundbreaking timepiece – the Génie 01, the world’s first mechanical wristwatch with time, barometer for forecasting the weather, altimeter and power reserve indications.
Graff, Boucheron, Suzanne Kalan and Faberge will also dazzle visitors with their exquisite splendor of the finest jewellery.

In the watches category, Jaeger Le-Coultre, the world-famous watch maker will introduce its masterpiece Duomètre Sphérotourbillon Moon at the Doha Jewellery & Watches Exhibition 2015. This is the year that Jaeger Le-Coultre pays tribute to the age-old science of astronomy and this timepiece is a salute to the theme. Whether it comes to the effects of gravity on the earth, the discrepancy that creeps into the moon-phase indication, or the impact on a watch’s precision when a complication is activated, the Duomètre Sphérotourbillon Moon of Jaeger-LeCoultre invented its own solutions. The Duomètre Sphérotourbillon Moon expresses its strength of character through the realm of calendar-type horological complications. Equipped with a moon-phase display endowed with a reliability stemming from lengthy research, it embodies the age-old wisdom of traditional astronomy as well as the inventive power of Jaeger-LeCoultre.

From the timeless classic house of Cartier, the unveiling of exceptional high jewellery, fine watch making and precious objects with 103 creations specially crafted for the Doha Jewellery & Watches Exhibition 2015.

French luxury brand Chopard will unveil its L.U.C. masterpieces to the exhibition whilst Richard Mille is ready to showcase its new RM19-02 Tourbillon Fleur for the first time in the Middle East at the exhibition.  A. Lange & Söhne, the prestigious Saxon watch manufactory celebrates the 200th anniversary of Ferdinand Adolph Lange, founder of Saxony’s precision watchmaking, with the presentation of a special dedicated timepiece, first time launched in the Middle East during the Doha Jewellery & Watches Exhibition. It will be showcased along with the brand’s current collection.
The Montblanc Heritage Spirit collection is enhanced by a new model that once again highlights the ambition of Montblanc to share the passion for fine watchmaking.

In keeping with fantastic accessories now style statements, SAVELLI is the first luxury smartphone created and handcrafted in Switzerland as a precious piece of jewellery. Jardin Secret collection will be showcased in partnership with Almajed group at the Doha Jewellery & Watches Exhibition for the first time ever.

According to the Director of Exhibitions at Qatar Tourism Authority, Mr. Hamad al Abdan: “This year’s edition of Doha Jewelry and Watches Exhibition (DJWE) will undoubtedly exceed all expectations, as a growing number of international and local brands are competing with each other to take part in the 6-days elegant luxury show, and pieces are launched by international jewelry makers exclusively during the event. We feel proud to host such reputable brands and their prestigious collections, an eclectic mix of new and classical pieces. We look forward to the grand opening tonight. Visitors will discover an amazing world of beautiful jewellery and watches, and the fascinating stories behind these collections.”

A Single Sheet of Paper - Origami Addict!

No scissors! No Glue! No Cutting! With just one sheet of paper, a little bit of creativity and a great heap of passion these cute looking complex items are made with dedication by folding the papers!

Couple of years back a close friend taught Afsheen how to shape an Origami flower, since that day talented Afsheen who already loved crafting from her childhood could not fall asleep till she could explore this ancient Japanese paper folding art.

Afsheen is a self taught origamist with a lot of support from her parents and encouragement from her husband,. She loves to discover and leap into the vast horizon of creativity to come out with some unique dainty items.

She says: "All I need is a square sheet of thin paper, be it an old newspaper or scrapbooking paper or a comic book paper. I do not need a craft market"

Today she has her own crafty space which she calls "Origami Addict"! Doesn't the name tell us how addicted she is and the bond she has with Origami for its very true that someone said "Origami is a metamorphic art form, you got that piece of paper, you don't add to it you don't take away from it , you CHANGE it"
All details of Origami Addict can be found at www.rush360.qa by searching for "Origami". Origami lampshades, Candy Boxes, gift bags and boxes, pretend play items, flowers and many more items are available at Origami Addict in different sizes, shapes and colours. Browse through her Facebook page to see some of her elegant products!

Pictures Courtesy of Origami Addict Qatar
You can also get hold of Afsheen's products at the Katara QatArt Handmade Markets and MIA Park Bazaar. She undertakes any customise orders too and would be glad to add colour to your events with her beautiful Origami decorations! Her contact details are available at www.rush360.qa! Search for origami anytime and you will have all what you need! Be sure to try her products out next time!

The good news is she also loves to share this art with others. She conducts workshops for kids as small as three years up to even eighty year old adults! Usually her workshops are well received and the whole family enjoys the quality time and learning! Check out our Arts and Crafts Classes in Qatar page for her upcoming workshops at Katara Cultural Village. She is ready to hold workshops for anyone anytime! Isn't that wonderful? Take advantage of her while she is in Qatar!
Her advise to fellow crafters and those who are interested in crafting is: "Just focus on one art and craft type at a time and be unique". Afsheen is currently working on origami tessellation and she says she would love to exhibit it in a museum some day!

We thank Afsheen for all the information and wish her all success in her projects and future endeavours.
