VCUQatar is offering Introduction to Islamic Pattern Construction: Six fold patterns classes. Participants must buy their own materials and bring along. Payment can be made online here or visit the VCUQatar shop for in-person registration.
Here are the details
Do you like grids, patterns and colors? This is the course for you. Participants are introduced to basic geometry concepts used in Islamic art and will learn how to construct six fold patterns from scratch using the traditional tools of compass and straight edge. The class will conclude with each participant taking home a beautifully colored Islamic pattern. Beginner level.

- Basic introduction to Islamic geometric patterns. Explanation and demonstration of six fold symmetry and how to construct the principal grid.
- Construction of pattern.
- Continuation of construction of pattern.
- Transfer of pattern onto high quality paper. Lecture on color theory and selection of color palette.
- Exploration of color application, coloring of final artwork and conclusion of the course.
